Retro Red, White, & Blue + What to Wear For any Event on the 4th of July

The city I live in happens to be home to one of the most famous Navy ships of World War II, the USS Lexington. I have visited the ship many times over the years since it's arrival in Corpus Christi (I even preformed in a play there once with my middle school drama club, but that's neither here nor there.) It was such a big part of my youth, that one of the very first things that comes to my mind when I think of our country's freedom and Independence day is this historic aircraft carrier.
So, I wanted to do something fun for the blog that reflected my love for 1940's Americana style. Although I was seriously tempted to dress up like Rosie the Riveter (what girl secretly doesn't want to do that at least once right?) I decided to take a more modernized approach to the classic style of the 40's.
This amazing top and these adorable pants are both by BCBG.
My shoes are from Forever 21.

My sunglasses are by Ray Ban.

For many of us Independence day means time spent with friends, family, food, and fireworks; and if you're feeling festive this year, (like I obviously am) then you will need a fabulously hued red, white, and blue outfit that fits any summer celebration. I've put together a few outfit ideas below that are sure to be a hit at whatever event you grace with your presence this July 4th.

what to wear on the 4th: Backyard BBQ

What to Wear on the 4th: Date Night

Outfit of the Day: Effortless Date-Night Elegance

Even though most of my summer days are filled with casual clothes and flip flops, there are those few moments or events that call for a more "dolled-up" look; whether it be a wedding, evening social event, or just a romantic date with my hubby. This outfit is perfect for a night just like that. Simple enough to not be too "over-done" during the lazy days of summer, but elegant enough to feel lovely and look chic.
This lavender dress by BCBG is perfect for a summertime evening soiree or a romantic dinner with your honey. It's simple design paired with it's silk fabric makes for an effortlessly elegant look that's perfect for the warmer weather.

This dipped quartz cuff by Gussied is a hand-made gem by an amazingly talented and sweet friend of mine. It's quickly becoming my favorite go-to piece of jewelry. These cuffs can be customized to suit whatever color you might fancy. If you think it looks pretty with a simple silk dress, you should see what it does for a pair of jeans and a casual top. You can find this cuff and all of her beautiful designs HERE.

My summertime go-to nude pumps are by Christian Louboutin.

The handbag in this look is by Tory Burch
Thanks for stopping by today! See you soon.

Summertime Barbie Girl

After I uploaded all of the pictures from this week's look, the first thought that came to mind was this is total "Barbie doll" style...then I sat for a bit, tried coming up with a more clever title for this little post, and my brain inevitably started playing the "Barbie Girl" song (yes the one from like 15 years ago) on repeat. It literally would not leave my head. So, mental defeat set in and I'm totes embracing it...Barbie girl it is, all. the. way.
This outfit for me is the perfect summer date night outfit. If you've been following my blog (or if you've clicked on the style tab at the top of this page and looked through my other outfits,) then you know, if it's floral print and there's some pink thrown in there, I'm basically going to love it.  The pops of color make it fun, while the shorter cut to the skirt's hem line make it flirty and cute.

The Top and Peplum skirt in the look are both from Forever 21
This adorable lavender clutch is from Francesca's

No Barbie doll look would be complete with out the perfectly pink "Barbie shoe." Mine are by Jessica Simpson, and though they are quite high, the platform in the front makes them quite comfy.

Thanks for stopping by, see you soon dollface!

Everything is Gonna be All Bright

Happy Monday Lovelies!
I just love that spring is here and summer is right around the corner because that means bright colors are in all the stores and, if you know me personally, you know I adore any outfit that can bring a pop of color to my wardrobe.

This dress, which is from one of my favorite local boutiques, Four Chicks in the Park (Visit their Facebook page HERE and give them a like!) is the perfect dress for a daytime or nighttime summer date. the bold color is balanced by the loose fit; and the dress is cut short enough to show a little leg in an understated way...like I said perfect for a day with your special someone.

I went with a neutral, taupe shoe to balance out the look.
These are some of my favorites from Forever 21.
Since the orange dress is such a bold, warm statement, I've paired it with a cool-toned, but equally bright, teal clutch from Francesca's.
A few stackable bracelets and your favorite watch are all you need to finish off this look. When wearing bold colors, it's usually best if you stick with minimal jewelry.
The Invicta watch was a wedding gift from one of my sweet uncles, the "hello" bracelet is a steal from Forever 21, the chain-linked bracelet is J. Crew, and the adorable taupe bow bracelet is Vince Camuto.
Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

lots of hugs!
